GERARD EDERY
THE SONS OF SEPHARAD
Gerard Edery -vocals, guitar, saz, composer, cantorial soloist- is recognized as a leading musical folklorist and a master singer and guitarist. He has at his command a remarkable range of ethnic folk styles and traditions from around the world, sings in fifteen languages and speaks four fluently.

Not only does Gerard regularly uncover and preserve songs from Europe, the Middle East, South America and ancient Persia, he energizes these repertoires by interpreting them for contemporary audiences and by teaming up with some of the world's most highly acclaimed virtuoso musicians. His special brand of world music fusion prizes formal authenticity and an appreciation for how disparate cultures overlap, parallel each other and often borrow from one another.

Gerard and his ensembles have been featured at Zankel Hall (Carnegie Hall), Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors, Merkin Concert Hall , Florence Gould Hall, and The United Nations in New York City, The Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, Royce Hall in L.A., The Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C., Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood, the Fez International Festival of Sacred Music in Morocco, the Festival Cervantino in Mexico, the Vilnius International Folk Festival in Lithuania, and the International Folk Music Festival in Warsaw, among others. Gerard was born in Casablanca and raised in Paris and New York City. He received his Bachelor and Masters degrees from The Manhattan School of Music in operatic performance and has sung over thirty roles with opera companies throughout the United States. He has also been honored with the Sephardic Musical Heritage Award and is the recipient of a Meet the Composer grant for his original songs. In addition to his busy concert schedule, Gerard also has twelve CD releases to his name as well as a critically acclaimed Sephardic Song Book released by Tara Publications and Sefarad Publishing.
